William “Lee” Grant
Retired NYSEG Lineman, 68

William “Lee” Grant of White Sulphur Springs, NY, died on Friday, September 9, 2011 at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in Manhattan. He was 68.
The son of the late Omer and Edith Purdy Grant, he was born on December 22, 1942 in Beacon, NY.
Lee was a retired lineman for NYSEG in Liberty, NY. He belonged to the White Sulphur Springs United Methodist Church. He was a member of Panther Mountain Hunting Club in Claryville and Buckhorn Hunting Club in Claryville and was a NYSEG Quarter Century Club member. Lee was a devoted family man and an avid outdoorsman and a friend to all. He will be missed by his family and friends.
Survivors include his wife, Brenda Grant, at home; sons: Troy Grant and his wife, Asia, of Bearsville, NY; Jason Grant and fianceé, Jennifer Knipp, of Columbus, Ohio; and Trevor Grant and his companion, Michelle Schmidt of Gardiner, NY; daughter, Tracey Argent and her husband, Jay, of White Sulphur Springs; and three grandchildren: Ashley, Brittany and Caitlin Argent.
Visiting hours will be held Tuesday, September 13, from 7-9 p.m. at Ramsay’s Funeral Home, 275 S. Main St., Liberty.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, September 14 at the White Sulphur Springs United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Bridgette LeConey officiating.

Mary K. Soliwoda
Executive Secretary, 63

Mary K. Soliwoda of Johnson City, passed away peacefully at Wilson Memorial Hospital surrounded by her family and friends on Saturday, September 10, 2011. She was 63.
She was predeceased by her husband, Donald F. Soliwoda.
She is survived by a brother, George Keesler, of Liberty, NY; a sister and brother-in-law, Linda and David Kresge; a niece and her fiancé, Nicole Lyn and Matthew; a nephew, Jason Kresge; a very special grand niece, Marissa, and a companion, Fred Jackson, all of Apalachin; and several aunts and cousins.
Mary was a member of the Apalachin United Methodist Church, the Moose Club of Binghamton, the Women’s Junior League of Binghamton, and the Roberson Science Center. She was a Lourdes Hospice Volunteer. She worked as an Executive Secretary for Broome Developmental with 37 years of service.
The family will greet relatives and friends from 4-7 p.m. on Tuesday, September 13 at the Laskowski Funeral Home, 367 Prospect St., Binghamton.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 14 at the funeral home with the Rev. M.J. Simonin officiating.
Burial will be in St. Stanislaus Kostka Cemetery.
Donations may be made in Mary’s name to the American Cancer Society.

Donald H. Hill
Retired from NYS Eastern Correctional Facility, 80

Donald H. Hill of Grahamsville, NY, died on Friday Sept. 9, 2011 at Orange Regional Medical Center. He was 80.
Don was born in Woodbourne, NY, on May 19, 1931 to the late Dorothy Brown Hill and Benjamin Hill. He graduated from Fallsburg High School in 1949 and began work at The Victory Market in Woodbourne, then later as a butcher in Liberty.
Don proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1951 to 1955, rising to the rank of Petty Officer Third Class. After the military Don worked for the New York State Eastern Correctional Facility from May 10, 1956 to May 10, 1986. After his retirement, he held three other jobs that he enjoyed: Superintendent of The Grahamsville Rural Cemetery from 1986 to 2001, school bus driver for Tri-Valley Activities, and umpire for girls’ softball, Little League and recreational leagues.
Don also found time for many other community organizations. He was a volunteer fireman for Woodbourne and then transferred to Grahamsville Fire Department (1949 to present), served as fire commissioner for 30 years and could always be found at the firemen’s booth at the Little World’s Fair. Don also served his community as a member of the Grahamsville First Aid Squad. He was one of the founding members of the Tri-Valley Little League, could be found supporting and cheering on the Tri-Valley Bear’s school athletics teams, and was a supporter of the FAA. Don was a long-standing member of the Grahamsville Rural Cemetery Association, and in 1989, he was one of the founding members of the Flag Day Exchange Ceremony held at Grahamsville Reformed Church. The exchange is held on Memorial Day and Veterans’ Day to honor past veterans and civic minded community members. He was a member of the Woodbourne Reformed Church and later transferred to The Grahamsville Reformed Church. Don was a dedicated and community-minded person such that he was known around Grahamsville, unofficially, as “Mayor,” and could be found most mornings having coffee with his friends and neighbors.
Don is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 54 years, Pauline “Polly” Thompson Hill, married on August 17, 1957; his children, David and Lisa Hill of Virginia Beach, VA, Glenn and Sally Hill of Philmont, NY, and Susan Hill and Cheryl Martin of Orlando Beach, FL; grandchildren: Aaron and Matthew Hill of Virginia Beach, Sarah Allen and fiancé, Joe Raco Jr., of Red Hook, Rebekah Allen of Rhinebeck; sister, June Schmitz of Hasbrouck, NY; and many nieces and nephews. One sister, Charlotte Hill, predeceased him in 2000.
Firematic Services were held Monday at Colonial Memorial Funeral Home, Woodbourne.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 13 at the Grahamsville Reformed Church, State Rte. 55, Grahamsville, with the Rev. Paul Z. Ruter officiating.
Interment with full military honors will follow at the Grahamsville Rural Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, Don requested that donations be made to The Grahamsville Ladies Auxiliary, Grahamsville Firemen’s Scholarship Fund, or Hospice of Orange & Sullivan Counties, 800 Stony Brook Court, Newburgh, NY.

Linda Walworth
Self-Employed, 50

Linda Walworth of Callicoon died unexpectedly Saturday, September 10, 2011 at her home. She was 50.
The daughter of Robert and Marjorie Walworth, she was born December 13, 1960 in Carbondale, Pa.
She was a graduate of Delaware Valley Central School’s Class of 1978. She volunteered with the Callicoon Renaissance group and loved to garden. She could grow anything.
She is survived by a brother, Daniel Walworth of Callicoon; a sister; an aunt; and several cousins.
A memorial service will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, September 17 at the Assembly of God Church in Hankins.
Cremation will be private.
