Peter A. Karadontes
Retired Landscape Architect, 78

Peter A. Karadontes, 78, of Jeffersonville passed away unexpectedly in Miami, Florida on Friday, November 23, 2012.
Born on November 5, 1934 in Palisades Park, NJ, he was the son of the late Andrew and Chrysoula Solomos Karadontes.
Pete was a gentle soul with a unique personality. He was extremely intelligent and creative and he was full of wisdom, wit and humor. Pete was a landscape architect who retired from his nursery business and created Briscoe Flower Farm to grow his beloved peonies. He will be missed with much love and forever in our hearts.
He is survived by his beloved sister, Anne Maus of Callicoon, NY; his brother, Tom Karadontes; sister-in-law, Lucy Karadontes; nieces, Georgia Hart and her husband, Kevin and Christine Karadontes and her companion, Andy Butler; nephews, Andy Karadontes and his wife, Lori and Jimmy Karadontes; great-niece, Kali Picard and her husband, Chris; great-nephews, Jared Hart and his fiancée, Tina Perdicologos and Nico Karadontes; great-great-niece, Melina Picard and great-great-nephew, Braeden Picard, all of Jeffersonville, NY.
Funeral services will be on Wednesday, December 19, 2012 at 11 a.m. at Ramsay’s Funeral Home, 275 S. Main St., Liberty, NY. Fr. Chris Talleos will officiate.
Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.

Ardiss E. VanInwegen, 100
January 6, 1912 – December 13, 2012

Ardiss E. VanInwegen, of Wanaksink Lake, died Wednesday, December 13, 2012 in The Royal Nursing Home of Fairhaven, Massachusetts. She was the matriarch of the family and led a remarkable life for almost 101 years. She was married for 65 years to her late husband, Benson W. VanInwegen and together they ran the VanInwegen Funeral Home in Monticello until retirement in 1968.
Ardiss was born Jan 6, 1912 in Rockville Centre, NY, to the late Luella Combes and Harry B. Weeks. After the death of her father, her mother married Mervin Schoonmaker, who had 3 boys, Royce, Ralph and Wilbur, who were thrilled to have a “big” sister.
Mimi, as she was called by the grandkids, will be missed by her extensive loving family which includes her children and their families, extended family, god-children and close friends.
Over the years, both she and Ben were very active members of the community. Ardiss was very active in numerous community organizations, including Eastern Star, Grange, Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, and local historical society. She was a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church and an involved participant of the women’s guild. For many years, she was a Red Cross volunteer and among other things provided communications to active service men and women obtaining leaves for them in times of need.
Ardiss and Ben provided multiple levels of support to many families as an integral part of the funeral home services. Their home was open to all. Family and friends grew everlasting bonds through the strengths of Ardiss and Benson VanInwegen, two very remarkable people.
Funeral services were held Monday at the VanInwegen-Kenny Funeral Home, 401 Broadway, Monticello.
Burial will be in Bloomingburg Rural Cemetery, Bloomingburg.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to St. John’s Episcopal Church or a local charity of one’s choice.

Donald H. Bury
July 31, 1939 - December 14, 2012

Donald H. Bury of Ellenville, NY, died Friday, December 14, 2012 at the Ellenville Regional Hospital, Ellenville. He was 73.
Don was born July 31, 1939 in Roscoe, NY, the son of the late Millard H. and Ethel S. Bury. The family home was in Callicoon Center, NY. He married Mary Moore Bury on August 17, 1968. They recently celebrated their 44th wedding anniversary.
Don was a graduate of the Jeffersonville-Youngsville School class of ‘57, and the American Academy McAllister Institute of Funeral Service, New York City, NY. He was the owner and director of the former Donald H. Bury Funeral Home in Ellenville, NY.
He was a member of the Ellenville United Methodist Church; former member of the Ellenville Noonday Club, and former member and past president of the Shawangunk Country Club.
Surviving are his wife; his brother, Thomas J. Bury (Donna); his brother-in-law, Edward J. Lenihan; nephews, Timothy Bryan, Michael Bury and families; nieces: Jessica Fraccalvieri (Joseph) and Lindsay DiFazio, his sisters-in-law: Frances A Ness, Shirley K. Kuzsman, Denise K. Moore and families, and aunts and uncles. He was predeceased by his parents, sisters Ruth Ann (Jane) Lenihan and Susan E. DiFazio, and brother-in-law Marvin T. Moore.
The funeral service will be celebrated Tuesday, December 18 at Ellenville United Methodist Church, 85 Canal St., Ellenville.
Burial will follow at Fantinekill Cemetery, Ellenville.

Phyllis Donaldson Johnston
Retired Secretary, 86

Phyllis Donaldson Johnston of Damascus, PA, and formerly of Bronx, NY, died on Friday, December 14, 2012 at Wayne Memorial Hospital. She was 86.
She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Kenneth J. Johnston. The couple married on July 1, 1965.
Born on April 22, 1926 in Bronx, NY, she was the daughter of the late John and Ethel Auer Donaldson. She was a graduate of William Taft High School and later attended Katherine Gibbs Secretarial School. Phyllis enjoyed spending her summers growing up in Galilee at the family home where she and her husband resided. She was proud to keep the home that has been in her family since 1896.
Phyllis began working at Harper’s Bazaar Magazine where she was the assistant editor. Later she worked for Parsons School of Design where she was secretary to the dean, and in 1994, she retired from Juster Development where she was a secretary.
She was a member of St. John the Evangelist Parish, attending St. Joseph’s Church in Rileyville, PA, where she was a member of the choir. An avid reader, she enjoyed the quiet time and had nice book collection.
Also surviving is her niece Phyllis Grant of Fairbanks, AK.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Joan Halliday.
Cremation was held at Maple Hill at Salem Crematory.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Friday, December 21, 2012 at St. Joseph’s Church in Rileyville at 10 a.m.
Interment will follow in Hillcrest Cemetery, Galilee, PA.
