Esther Roffman
Co-Owner of Sid’s Store, 95

Esther Roffman, a longtime resident of South Fallsburg, and the widow of Sid Roffman, died on Saturday, June 23, 2012 in New York City. She was 95.
The daughter of Max and Pauline Lacher Gelber, Esther was born in New York City on January 21, 1917.
She, with her husband Sid, will be remembered as the owners of Sid’s, a toy, souvenir, candy, magazine and novelty store. She saw South Fallsburg and the mountains in their heyday, a time when it was a true summer destination.
Esther is survived by her loving daughters, Sandy Lamoreox and Laura Wechsler; her sons-in-law, Steven Lamoreox and Bernard Kasper; and her grandson, Ian Wallach.
She will be remembered by family and friends as a kind, strong and hardworking woman, devoted wife, mother and grandmother.
Funeral services were held on Monday, June 25, 2012 at the Joseph N. Garlick Funeral Home Inc., 388 Broadway, Monticello, NY. Rabbi Yaakov Barros officiated.
Burial was made in the South Fallsburg Hebrew Association Cemetery, Marsh Road in Glen Wild.

Shari Lisa Pine
Attorney, 50

Shari Lisa Pine, an attorney for Neostem Inc., died on Saturday, June 23, 2012 at her home in Rock Hill, with her family by her side. She was 50.
Shari was born in Copiague, NY, the daughter of Martin and Rima Gurstelle Pine. She was a 25-year member of the New York Bar Association, and in-house council for Neostem, Inc. in New York City.
She is survived by her father, Martin Pine, and his companion, Nancy Rosengard, of Newton Center, Mass; her mother, Rima Intregisla and her husband, Carl, of Boynton Beach, Fla.; her brother, Jordan Pine and his wife, Stacey, of Rock Hill; her niece, Emily Fae Pine of Rock Hill; and her dear friends.
Funeral services will be held at noon on Tuesday, June 26, 2012 at the Joseph N. Garlick Funeral Home Inc., 388 Broadway, Monticello, NY.
Burial will be in the Brotherhood Cemetery on Thompson Rd. in Monticello.
Shiva will be held at her home in Rock Hill on Tuesday afternoon after the burial until 8 p.m., and again on Wednesday from 1 p.m. till 8 p.m.
The family has requested that donations in memory of Shari be given to Hospice of Orange and Sullivan Counties, 800 Stony Brook Court, Newburgh, NY.

Mark A. Walters
Chef at Pronto Pizza, 30

Mark A. Walters of Roscoe, NY, a chef at Pronto Pizza, Livingston Manor, NY, and Second to None, Liberty, NY, a longtime area resident, died Thursday, June 21, 2012 in Livingston Manor. He was 30.
The son of Donald R. and Jeralyn R. “Bunni” Horton Walters, he was born July 19, 1981 in New York City, NY.
Mark was a graduate of Roscoe Central School.
Survivors include his parents, Donald and Jeralyn “Bunni” Walters of Roscoe; three brothers, Lucas, Jesse and his wife, Ashley, and Matt; one sister, Codi; several aunts and uncles; two nephews, and one niece.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, June 26 at the Harris Funeral Home, Railroad Avenue, Roscoe. Father Francis Pizzarelli will officiate.

Joseph John Leo Marrotte
Ret. Owner of Aircraft Instrument Development Svcs., 90

Joseph John Leo Marrotte of Callicoon, NY, died Friday, June 22, 2012 at the Julia Ribaudo Health Care Center in Lake Ariel, Pa. He was 90.
The son of the late Joseph and Ida Cloutie Marrotte, he was born November 8, 1921 in Willimantic, CT. John was the husband of Catherine Coy Marrotte.
John was a member of Holy Cross Church, Callicoon, and a member and Past Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus Council 4478 in Callicoon. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.
Mr. Marrotte is survived by his wife, Catherine Coy Marrotte, his son, Gene Marrotte and wife, Irene; several grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Helen Gacnick Marrotte; his son, Gary Marrotte; his sister, Theresa; and his twin sister, Jeanette.
A Funeral Mass was held Monday, June 25 at Holy Cross Church in Callicoon and burial took place at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Obernburg, NY.

Paul Frederick Fendt, 78
July 4, 1933 - June 24, 2012

Paul Fendt of Hillsborough, NC, passed on Sunday, June 24, 2012 at Duke Hospital in Durham, North Carolina, in good care and the comfort of his family. He was 78.
Paul was born on July 4th, 1933, in Callicoon, NY, the son of Fred and Edna Marie Muir Fendt. Paul was a younger brother to Ruth Marie Fendt Behnke.
Paul graduated from Delaware Valley Central School (New York, 1952), Taylor University (B.A., Taylor Indiana, 1957), Duke Divinity School (M.Div., Durham North Carolina, 1962), and University of North Carolina (Ph.D., Chapel Hill, North Carolina, 1976). Paul’s career spanned many areas, predominantly adult education, where he held several leadership positions, pastoral services including many recent years as a hospice chaplain, and even working as an auto mechanic to pay his own way through college. Paul loved to work with and help people, no matter what he was doing, and has touched countless lives in countless ways.
Paul is survived by his wife, Kaye Hamilton Fendt, of Hillsborough, NC; son, Karl Hamilton Fendt and wife, Ashley, of Stafford, VA; daughter, Krista Marie Wixted and husband, Doug, of Durham, NC; grandchildren, Ryland and Elyse, son Frederick Paul Fendt, daughter Mary K. Thomas and grandson Dylan; sister, Ruth Marie Behnke and husband, Don, of Tuscon, AZ; and many blessed nephews, nieces, cousins and in-laws.
Memorial services are planned for 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 26, at New Sharon Methodist Church in Hillsborough, NC.
Visitation with family and friends will immediately follow the service.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Paul’s name can be made to the Hospice Foundation of America (or your local Hospice), or the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of America.
Paul was a kind and gentle man, who blessed and was blessed by many. Those that love him will miss him, but are comforted by the tremendous life he lived and his eternal resting place with God.
