Barbara A. Sochinski
Teacher’s Assistant, 56

Barbara A. Sochinski of Parksville, a teacher’s assistant for the Liberty Central School District and a longtime area resident, died Thursday, March 15, 2012 at her home. She was 56.
The daughter of Barbara Caulfield Santoro and the late Nicola Santoro, she was born July 18, 1955 in Flushing, N.Y.
Barbara was a communicant of St. Peter’s Roman Catholic Church in Liberty, N.Y.
Barbara’s thoughts: “People that come and go in our world have no idea what they mean to us. For that, I thank you. For what you leave us will never be forgotten.”
Survivors include her husband, Steven Sochinski, at home; one daughter, Barbara A. Kelly and her husband Christopher of Parksville; her mother, Barbara Santoro, of Middletown; three grandchildren: Abigail, Madeline and Jacob; two sisters, Donna Biasi and her husband Wayne of Middletown, and Marie Saggese and her husband Ronnie of Montgomery; three brothers, Thomas Santoro and his wife Marina of Cornwall, Michael Santoro and his wife Angela of Myrtle Beach, S.C., and Nicola Santoro and his wife Laura of Monroe; and several nieces and nephews.
Barbara was predeceased by her two sons, Steven and Shawn Sochinski.
Visitation will be Sunday, March 18, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. in the Harris Funeral Home West St. at Buckley, Liberty, N.Y.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, March 19, 2012 at 11 a.m. at St. Peter’s Roman Catholic Church, 264 No. Main Street, Liberty, N.Y. Father Joseph Juracek, O.F.M. will officiate.
Burial will be private in the Laurel Hill Cemetery, White Sulphur Springs, N.Y.
Memorial contributions in her name may be made to the Hospice of Orange and Sullivan Counties, 800 Stony Brook Court, Newburgh, NY 12550.

Marie Sackett Erts
Ret. businesswoman, 95

Marie Sackett Erts, 95, a longtime resident of Liberty, passed away on Tuesday March 13, 2012 surrounded by her loving family at the Achieve Rehab & Nursing Facility in Liberty, NY.
The daughter of the late Augustus and Anna Sackett, she was born on March 17, 1916 in Hamden, NY. Marie was married on Aug. 19, 1944 to Charles J. Erts and resided in Liberty, NY. She was predeceased by her husband, Charles, in 1973, her parents, and her six siblings, Harold, Cliff, Mac and Clyde Sackett, Wilma Dibble and Betty Martin.
She is survived by her daughter, Sharon Erts Klos and husband John of Wanaque, NJ; her sons, Glenn Erts of Liberty, Richard Erts and wife Brandy of Santa Rosa, CA and John Erts and wife Linda of Neversink; her grandchildren, Alysen Klos Akers of Wanaque, NJ, Jonathan Klos of Philadelphia, PA, Kendra Erts and Ryan Erts, both of Neversink, Jillian Erts of Santa Rosa, CA and one great-grandchild, Alexa Marie Akers of Wanaque, NJ.
Marie was a partner and bookkeeper for her husband’s business, Erts Plumbing and Heating. After many years of assisting her husband and two sons, Glenn and John, she retired in 1979. She loved the outdoors and gardening. She was especially fond of flowers and raising her own vegetables. She loved birds and watching the squirrel’s antics trying to get birdseed from the feeders. He greatest happiness came from her family. She was very involved with her children and grandchildren.
The family wants to give a special thank you to her caregivers, Orra, Diane and Winnie for their devotion over the years. We would also like to thank the staff at Achieve Nursing Facility, Floor 1 East, for their support and care of Marie while she was a patient there.
Visitation will be at Ramsay’s Funeral Home, 275 S. Main St., Liberty from 2-4 and 7-9 PM on Friday March 16.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday March 17 at 11:00 AM at the Claryville Reformed Church in Claryville, NY. Rev. Paul Nulton will officiate the services.
Burial will be next to her husband at Claryville Reformed Cemetery immediately following the funeral services.

Claude Egan Wilson
Former Liberty resident, 92

Claude Egan Wilson, 92, died February 22, 2012 at the Masonic Home of Florida in St. Petersburg, FL.
Born and raised in Liberty, NY he was a WWII veteran serving in the 5th Armored Division from Omaha Beach to Aachen, Germany where he was wounded.
After graduating from Clarkson University he moved to NJ to work for the Texaco Marine Division. Later he received his commercial real estate license and opened his office in Spring Lake, NJ retiring in 2002.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth.
He is survived by his children, Diane Didden, Rand Wilson and Claudia Wilson; 2 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. Family will be holding private services. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to the Masonic Home of Florida. Anderson-McQueen Funeral Home (727) 822-2059

Inez Ann Wahl
July 5, 1946 - March 13, 2012

Inez Ann “Inie” Wahl, 65, of Hancock, NY, was called home to her Lord on March 13, 2012 while vacationing in Stuart, FL. She was born on July 5, 1946 in Hancock, NY, the daughter of Vera and Hamilton Couse.
Inez was a member of the Emory United Methodist Church and the Hancock Fire Dept. Ladies Auxiliary. She was an avid golfer, with many years spent in the Lake Lorain Ladies League and at the Hancock Golf Course. In her younger years, she loved to bowl. Inie will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She very much enjoyed the time spent with her daughter looking for treasures at “Sally’s Boutique”.
Surviving are partner, Stanley Ancewicz, son Danny and wife Carla Wahl, daughter, Patti and husband Roger Widmann, and son Kevin and companion, Gina, six grandchildren, Jessica Pent, Daniel Wahl Jr., Peter Wahl, Marissa Walley, Roger Widmann Jr., and Kathryn Widmann, and 1 great grandson, Alexander Wolski. She is also survived by sister, Eva and husband Al Bullis; 2 brothers, Frank Couse, and Howard and wife Debbie Couse, and many nieces and nephews. Inez was predeceased by her parents, a daughter, Inez, sister, Roberta, and brother, Joey.
Calling hours will be held on Sunday, March 18, 2012 from 2-4 and 7-9 at the Emory United Methodist Church, Hancock. A funeral will be held on Monday, March 19, 2012, at 11AM also at the church, with Rev. Dr. Roxy Moses officiating. Interment will follow in Riverview Cemetery, Hancock.
Donations can be made in Inie’s memory to the Emory United Methodist Church, Hancock.

Eleanor Virginia Cook
March 23, 1926 - March 12, 2012

Eleanor Virginia Cook, a hospitality specialist at the Villa Roma Resort in Callicoon, died Monday, March 12, 2012 at Calvary Hospital, Bronx, New York. She was 85.
Daughter of the late Martin and Virginia Panarello Passante, she was born March 23, 1926, in New York City. She was the widow of William Allen Cook Jr.
Eleanor is surved by her two daughters, Carol Cook and her fiance Brian Stauch, of Callicoon; Virginia Michaels and her husband Joel of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; her grandchildren: Tiffany and Melinda Cook, Joseph and Michelle Michaels, Deborah Weber Diaz and husband Stephen, Jason Robert Weber and wife Belinda, Erika, Brian Jr. and Thomas Stauch; great grandchildren Paul and Stephen Diaz, Jason Jr. and Skyler Weber; step daughter Rebecca Floyd and husband Rich; daughter-in-law Sharon Weber, her brother Martin Passante and wife Marion; several nieces and nephews including Linda Sandler, Craig Passante and wife Kara, Martin Passante and wife Gina; her cousins Virginia Pawlak, Joseph and Ann Shiavello, Leo and Barbara Schiavello, and Rita Loiacono.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by two sons, Paul Weber and Robert Weber, and by her cousins Edward, Elizabeth and Josephine Schiavello.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, March 16, 2012 at Holy Cross Church, Route 97 North, in Callicoon, at 11 a.m.
Burial will be Callicoon Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Judes Children’s Hospital or to the Sullivan County SPCA.
Arrangements are under the direction of Stewart-Murphy Funeral Home, 34 Upper Main Street, Callicoon.
