Erik Matthew Rosen
Entrepreneur, Lawyer, Artist, & Writer, 43

Erik Matthew Rosen of New York City passed away on May 4, 2012 after a long illness.
Erik was born on September 29, 1968, the son of Robert M. Rosen (dec’d) and Nathana Mintz Rosen of Rock Hill, NY.
Erik was a beloved son, brother, uncle, nephew and friend. Erik graduated from Monticello High School in 1986. He earned a B.S. from Colgate University (1990), a J.D. from Syracuse University College of Law (1994), a Master's of Journalism from the Newhouse School of Communications at Syracuse University (1994) and an MBA from the Yale School of Management (1999).
Erik was the President of the Monticello High School student body, a member of Theta Chi fraternity at Colgate, and an editor of the Law Review at Syracuse Law. He was also an accomplished skier, golfer, rugby player, and runner.
Erik was an entrepreneur, lawyer, artist, and writer. He was the President of Tremont Partners, a mergers and acquisitions company established in Boston, Massachusetts. Erik authored a novel, “The Nicotine Lottery," an alternate reality narrative set in his hometown of Rock Hill, NY. In recent years, Erik established Note Art©, a fine art company that brought Erik’s synesthetic visions to life through prints, merging music and color.
Erik is survived by his mother, Nathana Mintz Rosen; brothers and sisters in-law Jeremiah and Karen Rosen and Lucas and Jennifer Rosen; uncles Ward Mintz, Floyd Lattin, William Rosen and aunt Lois Rosen. He is also survived by nieces Vivien Shoshanna Rosen and Eva Rose Rosen and cousins Matthew and Hilary Rosen.

A celebration of Erik's life will be held at Bernie's Holiday Restaurant in Rock Hill at a future date.

George K. Hansen
Retired Teacher, 103

George K. Hansen, a longtime Liberty resident, passed away on Friday, May 4, 2012 at Elant Nursing Home in Beacon, NY. He was 103 years of age.
Born on February 8, 1909 in New York City, he was the son of the late Holger and Mary Ann Patten Hansen.
George was a retired teacher of the Liberty Central Schools in Liberty, NY. He was a longtime member of the Sullivan County Golf & Country Club in Liberty, and the Liberty Elks Lodge #1545. He also belonged to the NYS Retired Teacher’s Association. He served his country during World War II as a First Lieutenant in the U.S. Army Air Corps from 1943-1946. He was a member of the VFW Clarence Hoyt Post #9217 of Liberty, and the Russell D. Sprague American Legion Post #109 of Liberty.
He is survived by his devoted daughter, Virginia “Ginny” and her husband Deming Yaun of Beacon, NY, and his two very special grandchildren, Adam and Andrew Yaun. He was predeceased by his wife, Lois Hansen, in 2007.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 8, 2012 from 4-8 p.m. at Ramsay’s Funeral Home, 275 S. Main St., Liberty, NY. Funeral services will be on Wednesday, May 9 at 11 a.m. at Ramsay’s Funeral Home with the Rev. Ninon Hutchinson officiating.
Burial with military honors will immediately follow the funeral services at Liberty Cemetery, Cold Spring Rd., Liberty.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Ramsay’s Funeral Homes, Inc., Liberty, NY.

Kathryn E. Hasenpflue
Retired Dairy Farmer, 97

Kathryn E. Hasenpflue of Jeffersonville, NY, a lifetime resident and a retired dairy farmer, died Monday, May 7, 2012 at home. She was 97.
The daughter of Louis and Wilhemina Kamman Layman, she was born February 10, 1915 in Callicoon, NY. She was married to the late Frederick G. “Fritz” Hasenpflue.
Kathryn was a member of the Jeffersonville Lutheran Church and the Ladies Aide Society of the church.
She is survived by a sister, Muriel Krantz, of the Beechwoods, Callicoon; one nephew, Gary Krantz, and his companion, Helen Bossley, of Beechwoods, Callicoon; one niece, Arlene Mostert of Cocoa, Florida; and her special caregiver, Patricia House. She was predeceased by her nephew, John Louis Krantz, and her grand-nephew, Scott Krantz.
Friends may call from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, May 9, 2012 at the Stewart-Murphy Funeral Home, Jeffersonville.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, May 10, 2012 at the funeral home.
Burial will be made in the Jeffersonville Lutheran Cemetery, Jeffersonville.

Rita Eisenman Schifrin
July 16, 1926-May 5, 2012

Rita Eisenman Schifrin of Rock Hill, NY, died May 5, 2012 in Silver Spring, MD, surrounded by her family. She was 85.
Born in Brooklyn, NY, to David and Anna Yanick Eisenman, she is survived by her husband of 61 years, Solomon "Sol" Schifrin; two daughters and sons-in-law, Emily Schifrin and John Chamberlain, and Karen and William Grosso; grandson, Milo Chamberlain; brother, Bernard Eisenman; cousins; and four generations of nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, May 9, 2012 at the Joseph N. Garlick Funeral Home, 388 Broadway, Monticello, NY.
Interment will follow at The Ahavath Israel Synagogue Cemetery in Liberty.

Jeffrey Steven Gilbert
October 30, 1944 - May 5, 2012

Jeffrey Steven Gilbert was born October 30, 1944 in Brooklyn, NY. He was the loving son of Shirley Bershatsky Gilbert and Herman Gilbert. He was 67.
He grew up in Monticello, NY, and attended Monticello Elementary School. He moved to New London Connecticut where he graduated from Waterford High School. He returned to Sullivan County where he attended Sullivan County Community College and then built his home in Rock Hill, NY, where he resided for 35 years. He was a devoted and very loyal father, husband, son, brother, cousin, uncle, great uncle and friend.
He is survived by his loving son, Daniel Gilbert, of Monticello, NY; and sisters, Leatrice Deitsch Gilbert of Monticello and Carolyn Klein of New Paltz, NY. He is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and other family members and friends.
He was predeceased by his sister, Joan Segall Gilbert, of New Paltz.
Jeff was an army veteran, having served in the Vietnam War. He was a hard working, self-employed businessman, and on the Board of Directors for the Davos Condominium Association. He served on the National Ski Patrol in excess of 35 years as both an instructor and patroller. His endless dedication to the Ski Patrol resulted in numerous leadership awards and lifelong friends. He was very proud to see his son follow in his footsteps and become a Volunteer Patroller. Jeff enjoyed many things including scuba diving, motorcycling, antique cars, and he had a passion for skiing all over the world. He rescued many wonderful dogs and always had a special bond with the Mastiff breed.
Jeff was also an aircraft pilot and loved flying. His life ended doing what he loved.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, May 9, 2012 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Joseph N. Garlick Funeral Home Inc., 388 Broadway, Monticello, NY.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 10, 2012 at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Rabbi M. Medwin will officiate.
