George James Panchyshyn
Retired Manager, Village of Monticello, 71
George James Panchyshyn of Cosby, Tennessee passed away Friday, August, 9, 2013. He was 71.
He was a 30-year employee of the Village of Monticello, New York, first as a water plant operator, then advancing to Chief Water Plant Operator, Water Superintendent, Superintendent of Public Works, and retired as Village Manager. He was a past chairman of the Sullivan County (New York) Conservative Party. George served on the Town of Thompson Conservation Advisory Committee. He was the president of Alpine Sales Outdoor Power Equipment in Monticello, New York. He was a 30-year New York State Master Hunter Safety Instructor and he enjoyed hunting, fishing, trapshooting, and woodworking. George was a wonderful storyteller and always enjoyed engaging his family and friends with his many stories.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Bertha Panchyshyn.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Carol Somers Panchyshyn; sons, Mike Panchyshyn and wife Donna of Fort Pierce, Florida; Bill Panchyshyn and wife Anissa of Cosby, Tennessee; granddaughter, Elizabeth Brown and husband Andrew of Port St. Lucie, Florida; grandchildren, Nikki and C.J. Swinford of Fort Pierce, Florida; brother, Hank Panchyshyn and wife Rosa of Columbus, North Carolina; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

George W. Burkle, 88
February 25, 1925 - August 9, 2013
George W. Burkle of Narrowsburg, NY, was born February 25, 1925 to the late Philip & Theresa Burkle in Glendale, NY. He went into the Army as a medic in the Korean War and came back to the states and went to undertaker school. He worked for a funeral home in Glendale and realized that this was not his dream.
George came to Narrowsburg in 1949 by train to work for John Baller on Bridge Street, which is now the Narrowsburg Fire Department, as a mechanic and salesperson for the Chevrolet Dealership. He met Ruth Shirley Meyers and they were married in October 1959. In 1959 George also purchased the Arthur N. Meyers Agency from his father-in-law and it was then called the Burkle & Lander Insurance Agency. On July 11, 1960, George and Shirley had a son, Craig Philip Burkle. In 1970 George bought out Robert Lander from the insurance agency and it became known as the George Burkle Insurance Agency. In the 1980s, George Burkle purchased the Krongle Agency in Jeffersonville, New York; at this point in time there were three locations: Narrowsburg, Callicoon and Jeffersonville. In 1985 Craig came into the business and still runs the business with his wife, Cynthia Burkle. The business is three generations strong.
George was a member of the Narrowsburg Fire Department for 46 years and was president from 1990-1992, Tusten Volunteer Ambulance, Tusten Republican Committee Chairman, Town Supervisor 1996-1998, and Knights of Columbus 4th Degree.
George is survived by his son Craig and wife Cynthia, grandchildren Brett and fiancée Wendy Reynolds, Kristina and boyfriend Daniel Hillegas, and a great-grandson, Treacy Hillegas.
George has now gone to be with his loving wife, Ruth Shirley Burkle. They are now dancing their way to the pearly gates of heaven after being apart for 27 years.
Friends are invited to call on Tuesday, August 13, 2013 from 9 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. at the Rasmussen Funeral Home, 90 Main St., Narrowsburg, NY 12764.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, August 13, 2013 at 10 a.m. at St. Francis Xavier RC Church, Narrowsburg NY. Father William Scully, O.F.M., will officiate.
Burial will follow in the parish cemetery.

Joseph Yankowski
Retired from Western Electric Co., 94
Joseph Yankowski of St. Petersburg, FL and Lew Beach, NY, died on July 21, 2013 in Richmond, VA. He was 94.
He worked for Western Electric Company for 35 years and served in the United States Army for three years during World War II. He retired to Lew Beach in 1976 and was a member of the Beaverkill Valley Fire Department.
The son of William and Mary Peldunas Yankowski, he was born on May 30, 1919 in Hudson, NY.
He is survived by his wife’s son, Victor Robert Tomie and wife Justine of Brick, NJ, and their two children and three grandchildren; daughter Susan Hoban and her husband Gerald of Glen Allen, VA; grandchildren Sarah and James Hoban; and brother John Yankowski of Nutley, NJ.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Mary; sisters Veronica Erni, Julia Lepore (former proprietor of the Ardsley House), Helen Price, and Mary Yankowski; and brothers Anthony Thomas and Vincent Jankauskas.
A Graveside service will be held Saturday, August 17, 2013 at Lew Beach Cemetery at 12:30 p.m. Father Bader will officiate.

Otto Martine Lowitz, Jr.(Lil Ott), 60, of Paw Paw, WV, formerly of New York, passed away on August 6, 2013 at his home unexpectedly. Elaine (Sis) Rosch Normandin
May 1, 1926 - August 8, 2013
Elaine LaFort Rosch Wohltjen Hadden Ellison Normandin of Zellwood, FL, formerly of Liberty, passed away peacefully in Altamonte Springs, Florida on Thursday, August 8, 2013. She was 87.
Born on May 1, 1926 to Eugene and Emily Rosch, she lived the first 55 years of her life in Liberty, NY, and graduated from Liberty High School. She spent the remainder of her time in Florida and returned to Liberty frequently to visit family and friends.
Elaine was preceded in death by her husbands, Harold Wohltjen, Albert Hadden and Miles Ellison; son Robert Wohltjen; brother Joe Rosch and sister, Carol Rosch Wright.
She is survived by her husband of 13 years, Norman Normandin; Norman’s son and daughter-in-law, Grant and Mary Normandin; her son and daughter-in-law, Kurt and Debbie Wohltjen; her brother Bob Rosch; and numerous step-children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Elaine was an active and vibrant woman who loved people, golf, traveling and spending time with her family and friends.
The family will receive friends at Ramsay’s Funeral Home, 275 S. Main St., Liberty, NY on Wednesday, August 14, 2013 from 7-9 p.m.
Funeral services will be held at the First Presbyterian Church, 81 S. Main St., in Liberty, NY at 1 p.m. on Thursday, August 15, 2013.
Burial at Liberty Cemetery will immediately follow the services.
