Patricia Thorpe Parmele
Formerly of Roscoe, 88

Patricia Parmele, formerly of Roscoe, NY, died Monday, August 5, 2013 at the Hyder House Family Hospice Center in Dover, New Hampshire after a short illness. She was 88.
She was born in Jackson Heights, Queens, New York on July 14, 1925. She attended Hunter High School and Hunter College, receiving a degree in English, and worked as a secretary in New York City during and after World War II.
Pat lived for 40 years in her beloved home on Dutch Hill in the Catskill Mountains in Roscoe, New York, raising her family and then continuing to have a wonderful life there with her husband Harry until his death in 1999. She stayed on alone at the top of the mountain for 8 more years. She loved animals, and fed the deer every day out of 50 lb. bags of feed she got at the local Agway store in Callicoon.
Pat moved to New Hampshire in 2007 after realizing very reluctantly that going it alone was no longer possible. She had been an avid golfer from the time she was a teenager, and the discipline this imposed was evident in her later years, when she could be seen out walking every day, regardless of the weather. This last chapter of her life turned out to be one that was filled with love, as her family got to experience in a deeper way what an independent but also selfless and caring person she truly was. She loved being alive to the very end.
Family members include her stepson, Ken Parmele of Saratoga, NY; her step-daughter, Victoria Parmele of Northwood, NH; her step-daughter, Jean Ackerly of Plum Island, MA; her two grand-daughters, Lily and Julia Ackerly of Newburyport and Plum Island, MA; and her niece, Charlotte Vitale, Franklin, NY.
She was predeceased by her son, Bob Parmele, and her husband, Harry Parmele.
A Celebration of Pat’s life will be held in Roscoe, NY, in the Catskill Mountains, during the month of September.
An online memorial has been created at Gonetoosoon.org. Remembrances of Pat can be left there. http://pat-parmele.gonetoo soon.org/photos/list__2/
Donations in Pat’s memory can be made at http://act.alz.org/goto/ JeanAckerly to help fundraise for Jean Ackerly’s participation in the Walk to End Alzheimer’s Disease, in Portsmouth New Hampshire on September 29th.
