Local hoopsters have full slate this week

SULLIVAN COUNTY — January 5, 2010 — Whether or not they participated in tournaments over the holiday break, many of the county’s scholastic basketball teams will be competing this week.
Tonight, Livingston Manor will visit Roscoe for a pair of Orange County Interscholastic Athletic Association (OCIAA) Division VI games. At 6 p.m., the Manor Lady Wildcats will play the Roscoe Lady Blue Devils. At 7:30 p.m., the Wildcats and Blue Devils will take to the court.
Tomorrow evening, the Fallsburg Lady Comets will travel to Eldred to meet the Lady Yellowjackets in a 6:30 p.m. nondivision game.
On Thursday night, the Tri-Valley Bears will host the Chester Hambletonians in an OCIAA Div. V game. Tip-off is slated for 6:30 p.m.
In an OCIAA Div. IV game scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday evening, the James I. O’Neill Raiders are slated to play the Sullivan West Bulldogs at SW’s Lake Huntington campus.
In addition, several games are on Friday night’s schedule.
The boys’ games include Roscoe at Eldred in an OCIAA Div. IV contest and the two opening round games of a tournament hosted by the Liberty Indians. The girls’ games include Cornwall at Monticello in OCIAA Div. III, O’Neill at SW in OCIAA Div. IV, John S. Burke Catholic at Liberty in OCIAA Div. IV, Chester at T-V in OCIAA Div. V and Roscoe at Eldred in OCIAA Div. VI.
Local teams compete in Chester Tournaments
Four county teams participated in the annual Hambletonian and Lady Hambletonian Classic Tournaments held this past Friday and Saturday at Chester High School.
In the consolation game of the Hambletonian Classic, the Fallsburg Comets defeated the SW Bulldogs, 56-55, in overtime. Danny Seletsky paced Fallsburg (7-1) with 23 points, while R.J. Rosa led SW (0-8) with a game-high 25 points. Both Seletsky and Rosa were named to the all-tournament team.
In the championship game of the Lady Hambletonian Classic, Chapel Field defeated Eldred, 33-24. Amanda Busch scored eight points to pace Eldred (5-1).
In the tournament’s consolation game, SW defeated Chester, 41-37. Gabrielle Humleker and Autumn Ackermann recorded 10 points and nine points, respectively, for SW (4-3).
Ackermann and Eldred’s Sage Owens were selected for the all-tournament team.
