Scores of county athletes compete in Section IX track and field championship meets

SULLIVAN COUNTY — June 4, 2010 — Scores of athletes from county high schools participated in last week’s Section IX track and field championship meets.
The Class A and D championship meets were held last Thursday at the Faller Field Athletic Complex in Middletown. The Class B and C championship meets were held last Wednesday at Dietz Stadium in Kingston.
Class A
The Monticello boys’ and girls’ teams competed in the Section IX Class A championships. The Panthers placed 11th in the boys’ team standings with 25 points. The Lady Panthers earned two points to finish 15th in the girls’ team standings.
In the boys’ competition, Shane Jackson placed third in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.47 seconds and finished second in the 200 meters in 22.98 seconds.
Dave Wilbur was fourth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 10:22.61 and Jordan Wilson placed sixth in the long jump with a mark of 19 feet, 7 inches.
In addition, the Panthers’ 400-meter relay team placed sixth in that event with time of 46.08 seconds.
Class B
In the boys’ team competition, the Liberty Indians finished fourth with 110 points. In the girls’ team competition, the Liberty Lady Indians placed fourth with 79.5 points.

Class C
The Tri-Valley Lady Bears won the girls’ team competition by earning a total of 223 points. The Sullivan West Lady Bulldogs were second with 153 points.

The Eldred Yellowjackets and Lady Yellowjackets won the boys’ and girls’ team competitions, respectively. The Yellowjackets scored 214.33 points to place first in the boys’ division and the Lady Yellowjackets scored 242 points to place first in the girls’ division.
The Livingston Manor Wildcats finished fifth in the boys’ division by earning 58 points. The Livingston Manor Lady Wildcats finished fifth in the girls’ division by scoring 19 points.
