DVLFL All-Star Game

COCHECTON — June 29, 2010 — On Saturday afternoon, dozens of parents and other family members gathered at the Cochecton Men’s Club Field to watch the North Team play the South Team in the 51st annual Delaware Valley Little Fellows League (DVLFL) All-Star Game.
Before the first pitch was thrown, DVLFL President Rob Taylor welcomed everyone to the event. He noted that the game was being hosted by the Freda Real Estate Phillies.
“We should have a good game today,” he said.
When the game began, things went a little better for the South All-Stars. The South took a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning and kept adding to that lead. At the end of the seven-inning contest, the South recorded a 27-3 win over the North.
The North All-Stars consisted of players from the Field of Dreams Driving Range Cardinals, Freda Real Estate Phillies and Cochecton Mills Mets. Those players were: Brandon Dailey (Mets), Michael Diehl (Cardinals), Alec Dragos (Mets), Sean Highhouse (Mets), Josiah Jones (Phillies), Jacob Kabonik (Mets), Jackie Kenyon (Phillies), Roger Kenyon (Phillies), Sam Kraft (Cardinals), Denis Kuchta (Cardinals), Johnny May (Phillies), Cory Muller (Cardinals), Brandon Rave (Phillies), Garrett Senft (Cardinals) and Austin Williams (Mets).
George Muller, who coached the Cardinals during the DVLFL regular season, was the Head Coach for the North. The team’s Assistant Coaches were Roger Kenyon Sr. (Phillies) and Becky Williams (Mets).
The South All-Stars included players from the Cochecton Oil Giants, GS Plumbing and Heating Dodgers and Sonny’s Service Center Braves. Those players included: Catherine Campfield (Braves), Anthony DeGori (Giants), Nic DeGori (Giants), Colin Flynn (Dodgers), Hunter Flynn (Dodgers), Nick Grossman (Dodgers), Justin Jay (Giants), Tommy Kent (Giants), Kyle Kerkoulas (Braves), Linzii Koradis (Dodgers), Luke Krentz (Braves), Cory Meckle (Giants), Alan Sipple (Dodgers), Chase Smith (Braves) and Jared Zaccari (Braves).
The Head Coach for the South was Greg Stevenson (Dodgers). The team’s Assistant Coaches were Rob Taylor (Giants) and Rob Zaccari (Braves).
Colin Flynn scored the first run of the game in the top of the first inning. He singled, stole second base and moved to third base after the next two batters, Nic DeGori and Grossman, were walked. Hunter Flynn then earned a walk, which allowed Colin Flynn to cross home plate.
DeGori scored when Campfield walked to give the South a 2-0 lead. The South scored its third run of the inning when Grossman scored on a groundout by Meckle.
The North answered with a run in the bottom of the first. Senft, who reached base with a walk, scored when Dailey singled to right field.
In the top of the second, Krentz scored on a sacrifice fly by Anthony DeGori to give the South a 4-1 advantage.
Three bases-loaded walks, an RBI single by Colin Flynn and a two-run single by Nic DeGori helped the South stretch its lead to 12-1 in the top of the third.
In the bottom of the third, Kabonik and Cory Muller both scored on a single by Jones to make it a 12-3 game.
But the South added six runs in the fourth, one run in the fifth, five runs in the sixth and three runs in the seventh on its way to victory.
After the game, everyone gathered behind the backstop for an awards ceremony.
“Thank you everyone for coming to this game,” Taylor said. “I would like to thank the Phillies for hosting us today. They did a good job.”
Trophies were then presented to all of the North and South All-Stars. The North Coaches voted Nick Grossman as the South All-Stars Most Valuable Player (MVP). The South Coaches voted Josiah Jones as the North All-Stars MVP.
In addition, the members of the teams which finished in first, second and third place during the DVLFL regular season received trophies. The Dodgers received the first place trophies after posting a perfect 10-0 record this season. This is the second year a row the Dodgers earned first place with an undefeated record.
The Giants (7-3) finished second and the Cardinals and Braves tied for third place with identical 5-5 records. Taylor noted that the Braves played two make-up games last week and won them both to finish tied with the Cardinals. He noted there wasn’t enough time to order trophies for the Braves for Saturday’s ceremony, so the team members will receive their trophies at a later date.
The Phillies finished fourth with a 3-7 record and the Mets, who had an 0-10 record, placed fifth.
