L&B Tack earns win over Squires’ Home Cleaning

SWAN LAKE — July 27, 2010 — L&B Tack defeated Squires’ Home Cleaning, 12-2, on Tuesday night in a Sullivan County Women’s Softball League “A” Division game at the Swan Lake Firefighters’ Max Eronimous Field.
In the top of the first inning, Squires’ leadoff hitter Becky Decker swung at the first pitch of the game and hit a single.
A hit by Trisha Schmitz moments later allowed Decker to score and give Squires’ a 1-0 lead.
L&B Tack answered back in the bottom of the first.
Five hits led to Barb Merton and Trish Tuttle scoring runs to give L&B Tack a 2-1 advantage.
After being held scoreless in the top of the second, Squires’ then kept L&B Tack off the scoreboard in the bottom of the frame. It was a 1-2-3 half-inning as Squires’ left fielder Rachelle Irwin caught a fly ball and pitcher Nat Cillis struck out the next two batters.
Irwin then recorded a run for Squires in the third to even the game at 2-2.
But L&B Tack went to work in the bottom of the third.
Runs scored by Jamie Hopkins and Liz Stubits gave the team a 4-2 lead.
L&B Tack continued to extend its lead during the rest of the game to record the victory.
Jamie Hopkins and Stubits paced the L&B Tack offense. Hopkins went 3-for-4 with three RBIs and Stubits was 4-for-4 with three RBIs.
At the completion of the game, Squires’ Player/Coach Amanda Irwin said she was pleased with her team and acknowledged the team’s improvement this season. She also thanked team sponsor Jennifer Squires for all of her support throughout this season.
