No hope for Robin Hood as bats are silenced

WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS — August 3, 2010 — It was a scorcher as New Hope defeated the Robin Hood Diner 10-1 at the White Sulphur Springs Firemen’s Field in a Sullivan County Women’s Softball League game last Wednesday. Temperatures were again in the 90s on the softball field.
Robin Hood Diner recorded four hits in the top of the first inning. Kelly Doherty was able to score Robin Hood’s only run of the game on Christa Sweeney’s two-out RBI.
New Hope responded aggressively in their half of the first, recording seven hits to score runs by Ellen Wingert, Kristen Niemann and Lori Kimmes and take a 3-1 lead.
New Hope stuck again in the forth inning with runs by Wingert and Jasmine Kelly. Five more runs were scored in the fifth inning by Wingert, Kimmes, Melissa Cohen, Darlene Malewit and Tammy Kelly. Wingert was 4-for-4 and scored three runs while Malewit held the Diner bats in check.
As the softball league season comes to a close, both teams were nostalgic about the past several months.
Robin Hood Diner player/coach Liz Giumarra said, “We are a close knit team. We work hard, have a lot of fun…and we’re getting better.”
New Hope player/coach Darlene Malewit stated, “We are thankful to have this chance to play together and we are finally playing like a team.”
