Manor Lady Wildcats remain undefeated with win over SW

LIVINGSTON MANOR — October 8, 2010 — The Livingston Manor Lady Wildcats earned a 2-0 victory over the visiting Sullivan West Lady Bulldogs on Wednesday afternoon in a non-league soccer game.
In an interesting coincidence, Manor scored its goals at nearly the same exact time of each half.
At 38:43 of the first half, Paige Clancy gave the Lady Wildcats a 1-0 lead by kicking the ball into the back of the net from close range.
Just a couple of seconds earlier, Manor’s Marissa Diescher kicked the ball toward the goal. SW goalkeeper Heather Puerschner got her hands on the ball, but could not control it. Clancy got to the ball before Puerschner could grab it. Diescher was credited with an assist on the goal.
At 38:45 of the second half, Manor’s Maggi Calo scored by kicking the ball into the corner of the net from about 15 yards away. Clancy assisted on the goal.
Puerschner had five saves on the day.
SW (4-4) outshot Manor by a 13-9 margin. But the Lady Bulldogs were unable to get any of their shots past Lady Wildcats’ goalie Kiera Browne, who made 11 saves.
Two of the Lady Bulldogs best chances to score occurred in the second half. With 10 minutes to go, Jillian Fife took a direct kick from just outside the goal box. Fife fired a good shot at the goal, but Browne caught the ball for the save.
Then with approximately seven minutes remaining, SW’s Hannah Feinman took a corner kick. She sent the ball into the goal box, where teammate Gabrielle Humleker was able to get her foot on it and direct it at the goal. Browne deflected the ball, but couldn’t control it. SW’s Cassie Thelman got to the rebound, but her shot went just wide of the net.
With the win, Manor improved its record to 7-0.
“This was a very good win for us,” Manor Coach Shirlee Davis said. “It’s good to beat a bigger school. We have been playing a lot of smaller schools like us, but playing against a larger school gives us a better idea of how we are doing.”
Davis praised the Lady Bulldogs for the way they played.
“Sullivan West has a lot of speed and some very skilled players,” she said. “They played a great game today.”
SW Coach Mike Ellmauer was impressed with Manor.
“Manor has a very good team and they played well,” he said. “I wish them the best of luck in their division and in sectionals.
“I was hoping we would play better today, but we didn’t,” Ellmauer added.
