ELDRED'S SCOTT HALLOCK (55) and Roscoe’s Willie Browne (22) jump up to grab a rebound during a Division VI basketball game last month at Eldred Central School. Both the Yellowjackets and Blue Devils will be returning to the court this week as the second half of the scholastic hoops season gets underway.

County hoops teams return to the court

SULLIVAN COUNTY — After a holiday break, boys’ and girls’ basketball teams from the local high schools are returning to the court this week.
Some teams played games during the recess, however.
Those teams included the Fallsburg Comets and Lady Comets, who played in the Hambletonian Classic in Chester.
In last Tuesday’s opening round of the boys’ division, Chapel Field defeated Fallsburg, 39-34. Jason Corley and Russell Corley each scored nine points to pace the Comets.
In Saturday’s consolation game, Fallsburg was beaten by Ellenville, 62-37. Dan Seletsky scored a team-high 12 points for the Comets and was named to the all-tournament team.
In the girls’ division of the Hambletonian Classic, Chapel Field topped Fallsburg, 56-19, in last Tuesday’s opening round. Keyshawn Kennedy scored a team-high nine points for the Lady Comets.
Kennedy, who was named to the all-tournament team, also led Fallsburg with 19 points in Saturday’s consolation game against the host Chester Lady Hambletonians. Unfortunately for Kennedy and her teammates, Chester prevailed, 41-32.
In another contest during the holiday break, the John A. Coleman Catholic High School Stateswomen defeated the Sullivan West Lady Bulldogs, 46-18, last Tuesday in a non-league game in Lake Huntington. Katrina Graby led the Lady Bulldogs’ offense with eight points.
Last night, the SW Lady Bulldogs were slated to host the Fallsburg Lady Comets in an Orange County Interscholastic Athletic Association (OCIAA) Division IV game.
Among the other games scheduled for this week – weather permitting, of course – include the Tri-Valley Bears hosting the Tuxedo Tornadoes tonight in an OCIAA Division IV game, the S.S. Seward Spartans facing the host Roscoe Blue Devils tomorrow night in OCIAA Div. VI game, the Monticello Panthers welcoming Valley Central for a non-league contest Thursday night, the SW Bulldogs welcoming the James I. O’Neill Raiders for an OCIAA Div. IV game Thursday evening and the Livingston Manor Lady Wildcats hosting the Tuxedo Lady Tornadoes tomorrow night in a non-league game.
On Friday night, the Eldred Yellowjackets and Lady Yellowjackets will travel to Hancock to play The Family School Falcons and Lady Falcons, respectively, in OCIAA Div. VI contests.
