Lady Bulldogs blow past Lady Bears

By Lori Brown
GRAHAMSVILLE — On Tuesday night, the Tri-Valley Lady Bears hosted the Sullivan West Lady Bulldogs in a non-league game.
SW scored a 49-27 win to improve to 5-3 on the season, while T-V fell to 4-2.
The Lady Bulldogs took an early lead in the opening quarter. Senior forward Lindsey Murphy made two 3-point shots to help SW take a 16-10 lead at the end of those first eight minutes of play.
Allyson Bowers scored six of the Lady Bears’ 10 points in the first quarter.
Neither team scored many baskets in the second quarter.
Murphy had five points and junior center Katrina Graby added two points for the Lady Bulldogs. Kelly McNamara scored the only T-V basket of the stanza.
At the beginning of the third quarter, Murphy swished yet another 3-pointer to push the Lady Bulldogs’ lead to 26-12.
Moments later, SW’s Rachel Houghtaling stole the ball away and passed it to teammate Lindsey Bauer, who scored a basket.
Following a timeout, T-V’s Jakki Pugh scored a basket before SW went on an 8-0 run.
Pugh then registered the next six points for the Lady Bears. She made a traditional basket, a foul shot and then swished a 3-point shot with 32 seconds left in the frame.
About 25 seconds later, Murphy scored to give SW a 39-21 lead heading into the fourth quarter.
Murphy finished with a game-high 18 points, while Graby netted 14 points.
Pugh paced the T-V offense with 10 points and Bowers had seven points.
“Sullivan West played very good defense,” T-V Coach Andy Taggart said. “Rachel Houghtaling plays very hard and makes a big difference to their team.
“Sullivan West intimidated us early,” he added. “Lindsey Murphy shot the ball well. The first play she was wide open and landed a 3-pointer.”
“We should have taken more shots,” Taggart commented. “We had a lot of turnovers and we took a lot of bad shots.
Notes: The Lady Bears were scheduled to host Tuxedo last night in an Orange County Interscholastic Athletic Association (OCIAA) Division V game.
