SULLIVAN COUNTY On Saturday, Jan. 10, members of the Sullivan County Long Beards Chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation (NWTF) attended the annual awards banquet of the New York State Chapter, where they were presented with three very prestigious awards.
For the second year in a row, the Sullivan County Long Beards won the Most Outstanding Chapter of the Year Award. Out of the 59 Chapters in New York State, only the Long Beards met all the criteria of the NWTF guidelines for programs to be completed successfully.
For the third straight year, the Long Beards won the “Boss Gobbler” Trophy for signing up the most Jakes (youth) in 2008. The Long Beards established a new state record of 283 new Jakes members.
Hank D’Auria was also honored with a plaque naming him the 2008 Outstanding Member of the Year in “Appreciation of his years of dedication and unselfish service to benefit the Wild Turkey, his fellow sportsmen, the NY State Chapter and the National Wild Turkey Federation.”
Needless to say, it was a very eventful weekend for the Long Beards.
Additionally, Long Beards President Butch Kortright was given a seat on the NWTF’s New York State Board.
