Tuxedo takes win back to the OC

By Rob Potter
ROSCOE — The score was close in the early going of last Friday night’s non-league girls’ basketball game at Roscoe Central School.
After the first quarter, visiting Tuxedo held a 9-6 lead over the Lady Blue Devils. But in the second period, Rebecca Monteith registered six points to help the Lady Tornadoes outscore Roscoe 18 to 3 and take a 27-9 lead at halftime.
Tuxedo (14-4) maintained its advantage in the second half for a 53-33 victory.
Roscoe (8-10) edged Tuxedo on the scoreboard in the fourth quarter by a 13-11 margin, but could not overcome the large lead which the Lady Tornadoes built in the pivotal second quarter.
The Lady Devils held the advantage at the free-throw line, however, by converting 11-of-18 foul shots (61 percent). Tuxedo was 11-of-21 (52 percent) at the line.
Caitlin O’Keefe and Monteith paced the Lady Tornadoes’ offense by scoring 14 points and 13 points, respectively.
Kristen LeForte added seven points for Tuxedo.
Junior forward Amanda Ladenhauf led the Lady Blue Devils with 13 points.
Sophomore guard Paige Clancy and junior forward Taylor DeVantier each netted five points for Roscoe.
