CALLICOON The Sullivan West Golf teams showed their mettle on Wednesday afternoon by scoring medalist honors on both the boys’ and girls’ side enroute to picking up some important league wins.
“It was our first night, and we had pretty good scores,” Sullivan West Girls’ Coach Jeff Molusky said. “I’m pretty happy with the way they played.”
All three Sullivan West golfers tied for low score, scoring 52 over the par-35 front nine at the Villa Roma Country Club.
Their 156 total beat Roscoe, which fired a 190.
For Roscoe it was Nicole Ackerley, 58; Allie Bishop, 63; and Emily Fassberger, 69 leading the way. Sullivan West, which played Monticello last night at the Villa Roma, upped its record to 1-0, while Roscoe fell to 0-1.
On the boys’ side, Justin Armstrong and Kevin Correa took top honors for Sullivan West with 3-over-par 38s. Melanie Kleiner, who again is playing varsity boys’ golf, shot a 41 and Artie Norden and Drew Billard rounded out the top five with 43s.
Sullivan West scored a team 203 to outpace Eldred, 251, and Roscoe, 284.
Leading Eldred were Jason Jennings, 46; Jon Geiger, 48; Andy Bosch, 51; Pat Kerr, 53 and Joe Boehm, 53.
Roscoe’s top golfers were Jesse Huggins, 52; Dylan Bowers, 55; Mike Failla, 54; Willie Browne, 61 and Calvin Mengus, 62.
Sullivan West and Eldred are now both 2-1, while Roscoe dropped to 0-1.
“This was the best night we had all year,” Sullivan West Coach Bob Fife said. “The course is starting to get a little nicer. We have eight guys who can shoot under 50.”
Sullivan West travelled to the West Point Golf Course last night to take on the James I. O’Neill team.
