Eldred boys, girls 'D' track champs

MIDDLETOWN — The Eldred boys’ and girls’ track and field teams won titles at the Section IX Class D championship meet held on May 27 at Middletown High School.
The Yellowjackets earned a total of 211 points to finish first in the boys’ team standings. Chapel Field (CF) placed second with 174 points.
John A. Coleman Catholic (JAC) placed third with 137 points, Webutuck (Web) was fourth (128) and Livingston Manor took fifth (35).
The Lady Yellowjackets also scored 211 points on their way to finish first among the girls’ teams at the meet.
Those other girls’ teams, in order of finish, were: 2. John A. Coleman Catholic (JAC) 193 points, 3. Chapel Field (CF) 137, 4. Livingston Manor (LM) 131 and 5. Webutuck (Web) 60.
Leading the Yellowjackets to their victory were Matt Campanella, Joey Counts, Gerald King, Brandon Startup and Nick Stymacks.
Campanella won the 400-meter hurdles in a time of 1 minute, 2.31 seconds.
Counts won the 110-meter hurdles in 17.43 seconds.
King took first place in two events, the long jump (19 feet, 3 1/2 inches) and the triple jump (40-8 1/4).
Startup prevailed in the pentathlon (1,923 points).
Stymacks placed first in the pole vault (7-6).
Pacing the Lady Yellowjackets were Brianna Brucher, Diana Schombs and Christina Watts.
Brucher won the 100-meter dash in 13.52 seconds.
Schombs placed first in both the high jump (4-10) and pole vault (8-6).
Watts won the 200-meter run in 27.77 seconds.

Monticello, Liberty compete
in Section IX Class A, B meets

On May 27, Monticello athletes competed in the Class A meet at Middletown High School.
