FORESTBURGH A total of 122 people participated in the third annual Forestburgh 5K Run/Walk on Saturday, Aug. 22 in the St. Joseph Community in the Town of Forestburgh near the intersection of Route 42 and Lake Joseph’s Road.
The 5K course took the competitors through the beautiful Lake Joseph community as well as the Inn at Lake Joseph.
The event raised approximately $12,500 for Hospice of Orange and Sullivan Counties.
This race has been the only fundraiser held for Hospice in Sullivan County in the last three years. Hospice provides end-of-life care to terminally ill patients and their families in their own homes or at the beautiful Kaplan Hospice residence.
David Wilbur of Mongaup Valley was the first runner to cross the finish line. The 17-year-old, who graduated from Monticello Central School back in June, ran the course in a time of 18 minutes, 1 second.
Another member of the Monticello Central School Class of 2009, Emma Cohen, was the first woman to finish the race. The 17-year-old Wurtsboro resident ran the course in a time of 21:43.
