SULLIVAN COUNTY There is a new leader in the Sullivan County Democrat’s 36th annual Big Buck Contest.
Last Friday, Matthew Volpe shot a 10-point buck in the Town of Neversink.
On Sunday, Volpe took the buck to the Monticello Fire Department to be officially measured and entered in the Democrat contest.
The buck, which weighed 123 lbs., had identical 22 1/2-inch beams and a spread of 20 inches. When the buck’s 10 points were added in, the total score was 75.
Hunters are reminded that the Democrat contest, which includes the Biggest Rack Division and Heaviest Deer Division, is for bucks legally taken here in Sullivan County or across the Delaware River in Wayne County, Pa. during the regular firearm season.
In addition, there is no cost to enter the contest.
Hunters can have their buck scored at one of the official locations listed in the advertisement on this page.
The season here in Sullivan County continues through Sunday, Dec. 13.
The season in Wayne County, Pa. began yesterday and runs until Saturday, Dec. 12.
