ELDRED — January 5, 2007 — The Eldred wrestling team posted its second win of the season on Wednesday night when it hosted Goshen in a Section IX, Division II match.
After Eldred’s Marcus Chandler and Matt Fermoso received forfeit victories in the 189-pound and 275-pound classes, respectively, the score was tied at 32-32.
But after the coaches and referee gathered at the scorer’s table to talk immediately after the match ended, they determined that Eldred won, 33-32, on criteria. The Yellowjackets prevailed because they won more of the matches that were contested.
With the victory, Eldred evened its overall season record at 2-2. Goshen fell to 1-4 on the season.
“We wrestled well tonight,” Goshen Coach Steven Camposeo said. “Our three seniors, James DiSapio, Joe Bradley and Nick Majewicz, all had big victories for us. They are our team leaders.”
DiSapio pinned Eldred’s Brian Corcoran in 1 minute, 25 seconds during their 135-pound bout.
Bradley earned a 5-4 decision over Eldred’s Justin Smith in their 140-pound match, which went the full six minutes.
In the 171-pound match, Majewicz pinned Eldred’s Josh Wallace in 2:41.
The Yellowjackets are coached by Jim Corcoran and Mike Moriggia.
Among the team members who scored victories were Sean Donnelly, who pinned Goshen’s Anthony Papa in 52 seconds during their 125-pound bout; Jon Geiger, who pinned Goshen’s Tom Flynn at 3:19 of their 130-pound match; and Steven Geiger, who earned a 16-0 technical fall victory against Goshen’s Nick Zappier in their 145-pound bout.
“We did excellent for being such a young team,” Coach Corcoran said. “This was very exciting tonight. Every wrestler on this team did an outstanding job. I couldn’t be more proud of all of them.”

96 pounds – no contest; 103 – no contest, 112 – Goshen’s Dennis Brigman pinned Eldred’s Devin Gales at 1:05; 119 – Goshen’s Evan Search pinned Eldred’s David Mellan at 5:18; 125 – Eldred’s Sean Donnelly pinned Goshen’s Anthony Papa at :52; 130 – Eldred’s Jon Geiger pinned Goshen’s Tom Flynn at 3:19; 135 – Goshen’s James DiSapio pinned Eldred’s Brian Corcoran at 1:25; 140 – Goshen’s Joe Bradley defeated Eldred’s Justin Smith by a 5-4 decision; 145 – Eldred’s Steven Geiger defeated Goshen’s Nick Zappier by a 16-0 technical fall; 152 – Goshen’s Ty Sutherland defeated Eldred’s Marcio Castellanos by a 15-0 technical fall; 160 – Eldred’s Geno Jones defeated Goshen’s Phil Zagunis by a 7-6 decision; 171 – Goshen’s Nick Majewicz pinned Eldred’s Josh Wallace at 2:41; 189 – Eldred’s Marcus Chandler won by forfeit; 215 – no contest; 275 – Eldred’s Matt Fermoso won by forfeit.
