Scholastic hoops team begin sectional play

SULLIVAN COUNTY — February 26, 2008 — A total of 10 local scholastic basketball teams are competing in this week’s Section IX boys’ and girls’ tournaments.
The boys’ teams which qualified include Eldred, Liberty, Livingston Manor, Monticello, Roscoe and Tri-Valley.
The girls’ teams which reached the postseason are The Family School, Livingston Manor, Roscoe and Sullivan West.
The tourneys began last night with a few games involving the local squads.
Sixth-seeded Monticello faced No. 3 Rondout Valley at Rondout Valley in a boys’ Class A semifinal.
In a Class B boys’ semifinal, No. 5 Liberty played host to No. 4 James I. O’Neill.
In the Class D boys’ quarterfinals, No 5 Roscoe squared off against No. 4 Eldred at Eldred Central School.
In a girls’ Class D quarterfinal, The Family School, seeded fourth, hosted No. 5 Livingston Manor.
At 6 p.m. tonight, No. 3 Roscoe is slated to play No. 2 Chapel Field in a girls’ Class D semifinal at S.S. Seward Institute in Florida.
Following that contest, at approximately 7:30 p.m., No. 3 Livingston Manor is scheduled to meet No. 2 Chapel Field in a Class D boys’ semifinal at S.S. Seward.
At 6 p.m. tonight, No. 3 Sullivan West is scheduled to host No. 6 Pine Plains in a girls’ Class B quarterfinal game.
On Thursday night, the Tri-Valley Bears, the defending Class C champions who are seeded second in this year’s tourney, are slated to host No. 3 Millbrook at 6 p.m. in a Class C boys’ semifinal.
