170 go 30K in Wurtsboro

WURTSBORO — March 21, 2008 — Nearly 200 runners and walkers made their way to Wurtsboro last Saturday for the seventh annual Wurtsboro Mountain 30K.
The 170 participants came from across New York State as well as Connecticut, New Jersey and Pennsylvania.
About 20 members of the Albany Runners Club drove down to Sullivan County to compete in the race, which is organized by the Sullivan Striders Running and Walking Club.
The winner of the race was Diboun Yassine of Ithaca.
He ran the 18.64-mile course in a time of 1 hour, 53 minutes, 24 seconds.
Joe Haytes of Schenectady was second (1:53:36) and Kevin Shelton-Smith of New York City placed third (1:59:03).
Bridget McCarthy of Elmhurst was the first woman to cross the finish line. She placed ninth overall with a time of 2:08:15.
Christina Ardito of Troy was the second woman to finish. She completed the course in 2:20:09 to place 32nd overall.
The third place finisher in the women’s division was Emmy Stocker, who was 39th overall with a time of 2:24:30.
Sullivan County residents who competed in the event included Tom Manza of Monticello, who finished 23rd overall and third in the 50 to 59 male age group with a time of 2:16:04, Scott Coddington of Wurtsboro (45th, 2:27:17), Nancy Figueroa of Grahamsville (153, 3:27:51), Suzzane Meier of Bloomingburg (156, 3:31:39), Nina Snyder of Bloomingburg (158, 3:37:55) and Abby Billias of Kauneonga Lake (160, 3:41:52).
