Scholastic Baseball, Softball Teams Set to Take Field

SULLIVAN COUNTY — April 10, 2007 — If the weather cooperates, local sports fans should soon be hearing two words that are forever associated with spring – “Play Ball!”
Several Sullivan County high school baseball and softball teams are slated to open their 2007 seasons later this week.
There are four baseball games and two softball games scheduled to be played on county diamonds tomorrow afternoon.
At 4 p.m., Liberty will host Cornwall in a non-league baseball game. At that same time about 10 miles away, Monticello will welcome James I. O’Neill for a non-league baseball game.
The Sullivan West Bulldogs will host Goshen at the Lions Field in Jeffersonville. The first pitch of that non-league baseball contest is set for 4:15 p.m.
Then at 4:30 p.m., the S.S. Seward Spartans and Fallsburg Comets will play a non-league game at the Fallsburg Central School field.
The Sullivan West and Tri-Valley softball teams will open their respective seasons at 4:15 p.m. tomorrow with non-league home games. The Lady Bulldogs will host Port Jervis in Jeffersonville, while the Lady Bears will host S.S. Seward at the Grahamsville Fairground field.
Two more local high school softball teams will also start their seasons tomorrow, but they will travel to Orange County to do so.
At 4:30 p.m., the Eldred Lady Yellowjackets will face the homestanding Tuxedo Lady Tornadoes in a non-league contest. Also at 4:30 p.m., The Family School Lady Falcons will visit the Chester Lady Hambletonians for a non-league game.
On Thursday, the Tri-Valley Bears will begin their baseball season by hosting Fallsburg in a non-league game. The first pitch is slated for 11 a.m.
