FALLSBURG Tuesday, May 8, 2007 The Fallsburg Comets picked up their first win of the baseball season on Friday afternoon in a non-league game versus the visiting Eldred Yellowjackets.
Fallsburg (1-10) withstood a late comeback attempt by the Yellowjackets to record the 10-8 victory.
The Comets held a 10-6 lead as Eldred (0-8) came to bat in the top of the seventh inning.
After Fallsburg pitcher Gavin Gandulla recorded a strikeout and a fly out to center fielder Joey Sep, Eldred’s Ian Halloran singled to left field to keep the inning going. Then next batter, Kevin Prunka, then hit a home run over the left center field fence to pull the Yellowjackets to within two runs.
But Gandulla induced another fly out to Sep to end the game.
Gandulla struck out seven batters to pick up the win.
Leading the Fallsburg offense were Sep, who went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs, and Colin Whitaker, who had a two-run double.
Adam Pavloff added a hit and scored two runs for the Comets.
Fallsburg Coach Darren Kinney was happy that his players worked together to record their first victory of the spring.”
“It was a balanced effort from [batters] one to nine in the lineup,” Kinney said.
