Spring Athletes Lauded at Fallsburg

FALLSBURG — June 15, 2007 — The Fallsburg Central School District honored its spring sports athletes in a ceremony on Monday night in the high school auditorium.
While the focus was on those athletes who participated on the Comet and Lady Comet teams this spring, several year-end and/or career awards were presented as well.
Seniors Ashley Baldwin-Hunter and Shane Weigand were recognized for being named Orange County Interscholastic Athletic Association (OCIAA) Scholar-Athletes. Last month, Baldwin-Hunter and Weigand attended the OCIAA Scholar-Athlete breakfast in Middletown along with their fellow honorees from Sullivan, Orange and Ulster counties.
Erica Hanger received the Girls’ Sportsmanship Award and Chris York received the Boys’
Coach Mandy Biccum presented the Female Career Athlete Award to Ashley Baldwin-Hunter.
Baldwin-Hunter, who competed for the soccer and track teams, will be attending Yale University this autumn.
Two members of the Fallsburg Class of 2007 – Matt Moore and Joseph Sep Jr. – received the Male Career Athlete Award. Coach Tarra Strauss presented Moore’s award to him, while Coach Darren Kenny presented Sep with his award. Moore, who qualified for the OCIAA and Section IX championships as a member of the Comets’ track team, will be attending SUNY Cortland this autumn. Sep, who played soccer, baseball and tennis during his years at Fallsburg Central School, will also be attending SUNY Cortland in the fall.
