Big Night Ahead at Monticello Raceway

Contributed Story
MONTICELLO — July 3, 2007 — Monticello Raceway will present the Catskills’ best fireworks display tomorrow night approximately 15 minutes after the conclusion of the racing program, which begins at 5 p.m.
This marks the 38th consecutive year that the Mighty M has presented a fabulous fireworks show for the people of Sullivan County.
In addition, the best sophomore pacing fillies in North America will compete in the $220,000 Final of the Lady Catskill Pace on tomorrow night’s card.
Featured in that contest is world record holder Southwind Tempo, the top 3-year-old pacing filly currently in action. She’s co-owned by former New York Jets wide receiver Wayne Chrebet, who is planning to be on hand  that evening to watch his filly race.
“In order for us to present our fireworks display this year we had to alter our racing schedule since we are predominantly a day-time race track,” Raceway General Manager Shawn Wiles explained. “We applied for, and received, permission, to race our Wednesday, July 4th program in the evening so we could continue bringing our great fireworks display to area residents. Racing that night will begin at 5 p.m. and the fireworks will be displayed at approximately 9:30 p.m.”
According to Wiles, the July 4th program will mark the only night time race card at the raceway during the 2007 racing season.
The fireworks display will once again be the product of the award winning and world renowned, Garden States Fireworks Company, whose show each year always outdoes their previous ones.
And as an extra added attraction, there will be no cost to enter the racetrack and view the spectacular fireworks tomorrow evening.
