CALLICOON July 6, 2007 By taking a 24 lb., 4 oz. gobbler, Tim Kautz of Jeffersonville is the winner of the Democrat’s Spring 2007 Turkey contest.
Kautz, who has won the contest three times previously, shot the winning turkey on May 17 in the Town of Callicoon.
The tom had a 9 1/2-inch beard, a 1 1/8-inch spur and a 1-inch spur.
Kautz said he used a diaphragm to call the turkey about 40 yards and used a 12-gauge to shoot the tom.

The gobbler had a 2 1/4-inch beard and 1-inch spurs.
