SULLIVAN COUNTY Evan Kirsch of Liberty has been selected as a member of the Hudson Valley baseball team that will play later this month in the Empire State Games in Binghamton.
This is quite an accomplishment for Kirsch, who had to compete against players from throughout the Hudson Valley region to earn one of the 18 spots on the baseball team.
Kirsch, a right-handed pitcher who will be a senior at Liberty Central School in the fall, has worked hard to be successful. He plays baseball and trains for the high school season year-round and has been learning the tricks of the trade since he was old enough to hold a bat.
Mike Marra, Sullivan County Community College Head Baseball Coach and Kirsch’s summer league coach said, “I’m happy for him, this is a very prestigious honor and I know he will make the area proud.”
Kirsch hopes to play college baseball. When Marra was asked if Kirsch could play college ball he said, “Absolutely, he just has to find the right fit.”
Kirsch will travel to Binghamton to compete in the Empire State Games, which begin on Wednesday, July 23 and conclude on Sunday, July 27.
