CALLICOON — July 18, 2008 — Paddlers from across the Northeast attacked the upper Delaware River in a battle of wills to win the Callicoon Canoe Regatta. The regatta celebrated its 10 year this past Sunday and more than 70 racers were on hand to see who could get down the river fastest from Callicoon to Skinner’s Falls.
“We host this event every year to benefit the Delaware Community Center,” race organizer Tom Freda said. “I want to thank all the paddlers as well as the sponsors for making this another successful year.”
The event has raised tens of thousands of dollars for the youth center since 1998.
The racers enjoyed great camaraderie as well as competitive fun in the sprint race, which most paddlers covered in between one and one-and-a-half hours.
