Roscoe Hoopsters Bedevil Margaretville

ROSCOE — November 30, 2007 — On Wednesday night, a couple of varsity girls’ basketball teams nicknamed the Lady Blue Devils squared off in a non-league game that was the 2007-2008 season opener for both squads.
The Margaretville Lady Blue Devils, a Section IV Class D team from Delaware County, traveled to northern Sullivan County to face the host Roscoe Lady Blue Devils, a Section IX Class D team.
Roscoe (1-0) bedeviled the competition in each period, as they outpaced Margaretville 9-1, 10-6, 11-10 and 19-10. As a result, Roscoe enjoyed a 19-7 lead at the half on the way to a 49-27 win.
The home team Lady Blue Devils were led to victory by Sky Dutcher and Amanda Ladenhauf. Dutcher scored a game-high 14 points, while Ladenhauf netted 13 points.
Erica Faulkner had a team-high 11points for the visiting Lady Blue Devils.
Although it recorded a 22-point victory, Roscoe struggled at the free-throw line. The team made just 9-of-29 (31 percent) of its foul shots.
Margaretville (0-1) was 11-of-23 (48 percent) at the line.
“It was a tough game, our first time with live action,” Margaretville Coach Kyle Holden said.
“We have some kinks to work out, but overall we got the girls some quality playing time… we’ll be better the next time around,” he added.
Coach Becky Ahart, who has guided the Roscoe girls’ varsity basketball program since 1987, was thrilled to be back on the court. This is the first time in three years that the small school has had sufficient numbers to field a varsity girls’ hoops team.
“We worked on who was playing where and what,” Ahart said. “I’m looking forward to the season.”
