ELDRED — December 18, 2007 — The visiting Monticello Panthers defeated the Eldred Yellowjackets, 77-12, on Wednesday night in a non-league wrestling match.
With the victory, Monticello improved its record on the young season to 1-1.
Eldred fell to 0-4.
“We’ve got a couple of kids with some experience,” said veteran Monticello Coach Ed Kaufman of senior Vinny Brugaletta and sophomore Anthony D’Abbraccio. “They pinned their guys pretty convincingly.”
Eldred Coach Jim Corcoran said it was disappointing to give up eight matches (48 points) to forfeits.
But Corcoran also found some positive aspects of the contest.
“Our guys did a good job and put forth a lot of effort,” he said. “Monticello’s been a good team for many years.
“We have some guys coming up the ranks,” Corcoran added.
“We want to make a better showing in the future, and I think we will.”
