Darder Stone Works defeats Sidetracks in Beer League game

By Laura Stabbert
CALLICOON — Reed Barnofsky of Darder Stone Works had an inside-the-park home run which also brought in two teammates to give the team a 15-4 advantage over Sidetracks in the fourth inning of Wednesday night’s Sullivan County Beer League softball game at the Delaware Youth Center field.
Darder Stone Works ultimately topped Sidetracks, 17-5, in a contest to see who was the better team in Callicoon.
Orion Darder of Darder Stone Works had two home runs on the night. His first round-tripper was a three-run shot in the first inning. Casey Pazzalia of Sidetracks caught Cody Fredo’s fly ball to end the inning, but Darder Stone Works held a 5-3 advantage.
Rookie pitcher Eric Leewe was on the mound for Darder Stone Works and kept Sidetracks scoreless in the top of the second inning.
In the bottom of the second, Darder Stone Works recorded another four runs. Mark Tesseyman hit a three-run home run.
Pazzalia had a home run in the top of the third to bring Sidetracks within five runs.
In the top of the fourth, Eric Leewe, who was pitching into the glove of his brother Jason Leewe, put down the Sidetracks batters in order.
Darder Stone Works scored four runs in the bottom of the fourth before Garrett Owen caught a fly ball which Orion Darder hit to deep left field to end the inning.
Darder Stone Works was also executing well on defense. Only three batters got up to the plate for Sidetracks in the top of the fifth. Tesseyman fielded a grounder and threw to second baseman Joe Meyer, who flipped it to Steve Musso at first for a double play.
Brian Kitson pitched the whole game for Sidetracks, but his team was unable to close the early lead Darder Stone Works created.
