records a big victory

WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS — The Monticello Fire Department scored 15 runs in the top of the third inning to seal a victory against the Youngsville Fire Department on Wednesday night in an Eastern Sullivan Volunteer Firefighters Softball League game at Gary A. Bradley Field at White Sulphur Springs Firemen’s Park.
Monticello FD improved its season record to 1-5 with a 24-2 win over Youngsville FD. Youngsville FD is yet to win a game this season.
“We hit the ball hard, we had good base hits and we ran hard,” said Monticello Assistant Coach Keith Kurthy.
A.J. Washington had an RBI triple to give Monticello FD an early lead in the top of the first inning.
Tony Lapardo scored in the bottom of the first to keep Youngsville FD within two runs.
Youngsville FD pitcher Jim Doughty and his defense kept Monticello FD scoreless in the top of the fourth inning. John McGibbon had two nice catches to end the frame after just four batters.
Youngsville FD needed to score to chip away at Monticello FD’s 20-2 lead, but the team was unable to score with Brian Gregory in the pitcher’s circle for Monticello FD.
Justin Mapes hit an inside-the-park home run in the fifth frame and Monticello FD added four more runs that inning before the game ended because Monticello FD had over a 15-run lead.
