County hoops teams begin sectional play

CALLICOON — Postseason play has already begun for some Sullivan County high school basketball teams, while others will begin their quest towards a Section IX championship in the next few days.
On the boys’ side, Fallsburg, The Family School, Livingston Manor and Monticello qualified for sectionals.
The girls’ teams which made sectionals are Eldred, Fallsburg, Livingston Manor, Sullivan West and Tri-Valley.
On Saturday afternoon, the SW Lady Bulldogs, who were the fifth seed in the Class B tournament were defeated by No. 4 Spackenkill, 37-20, in a quarterfinal game.
Last night, the No. 5 seed Monticello Panthers were slated to visit the fourth-seeded Wallkill Panthers in a Class A quarterfinal. The winner of the game will meet No. 1 seed Cornwall in the semifinals at 7 p.m. tomorrow.
The Class A title game is scheduled to be held at 8 p.m. this Friday, March 4 at SUNY New Paltz.
Also on Friday night, No. 3 Fallsburg is slated to visit No. 2 seed S.S. Seward in a Class C boys’ semifinal. The winner will advance to the championship game, which is slated to be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, March 6 at SUNY New Paltz.
Also tomorrow, No. 3 seed Livingston Manor will visit No. 2 seed The Family School for a Class D boys’ semifinal game set to tip off at 6 p.m. The two teams split their two Orange County Interscholastic Athletic Association (OCIAA) Division VI games during the regular season and finished in three-way tie with Chapel Field for the division title.
The winner will meet either No. 1 Chapel Field or fourth-seeded John A. Coleman Catholic High School in the Class D title game at 7 p.m. on Monday, March 7 at SUNY New Paltz.
Tomorrow night, No. 5 seed Fallsburg is scheduled to play at No. 4 seed Pine Plains in a Class C girls’ game.
On Thursday night, No. 3 Chapel Field will visit No. 2 seed Livingston Manor at 6 p.m. in a Class D girls’ semifinal game. The winner of the game will meet No. 1 seed John A. Coleman Catholic for the title at 5 p.m. on Monday, March 7 at SUNY New Paltz.
On Friday night, the T-V Lady Bears and Eldred Lady Yellowjackets will both host semifinal games in the Class C tourney.
At 6 p.m., No. 1 T-V will host the winner of the Pine Plains/Fallsburg semifinal game. In the other Class C semifinal, which is also scheduled to tip-off at 6 p.m., No. 2 seed Eldred will welcome third-seeded Millbrook to the “Bee Hive” at Eldred Central School.
The semifinal winners will play for the Class C title at 1 p.m. on Sunday, March 6 at SUNY New Paltz.
