GRAHAMSVILLE The members of the Tri-Valley Sophomore Class of 2013 are this year’s champions of the 35th annual Tri-Valley Competition Night, which was held on Friday evening in the T-V High School gym.
The annual event filled the gym with a standing-room only crowd and featured members of grades 9-12. Bill O’Morrissey served as Master of Ceremonies, with Kathi Smith and Lori Thayer as scorekeepers and Derek Adams, Bobby Beale, Tina Connelly, Mary Feusner, Jeanne Fiedler, Brenda Hay, Khristian Newkirk and Brian Tingley serving as referees and judges.
Events consisted of the Obstacle Course, Crab Soccer, Cage Ball, Relay, Tug of War, Brain Teaser and Lip Sync (skits).
The Class of 2011 has 96 members, Class of 2012 has 94 members, Class of 2013 has 88 members and the Class of 2014 has 94 members.
Points for each class were awarded for Spirit Week and participation, decoration and lip sync (skits), points for all events, sportsmanship points and the canned food drive challenge.
In the Obstacle Course event, the Seniors won five points, Juniors one point, Sophomores three points and Freshmen two points.
The Crab Soccer event saw eight points go to the Sophomores, six points to the Seniors, four points to the Juniors and three points to the Freshmen.
The Senior Class earned 11 points to prevail in the Cage Ball event. Seven points went to the Junior class, nine points to the Sophomore class and four points to the Freshman class.
The Relay Race was won by the Sophomore Class with 14 points, followed by the Seniors (13 points), Juniors (10 points) and Freshmen (five points).
The Tug of War event went to the Seniors with 16 points, the Juniors and Sophomores tied with 15 points each and six points went to the Freshmen.
In the Decoration category, the Sophomores again prevailed with 25 points. The Juniors scored 20 points, the Seniors had 19 points and Freshmen earned seven points.
The Lip-Sync (skits) event went to the Sophomores with 35 points, followed by the Seniors (24 points), Juniors (23 points) and Freshmen (eight points).
The Spirit Week points category was won by the Sophomores with 39 points. The Juniors and Seniors tied with 26 points each and the Freshmen had nine points.
The Sportsmanship points category was won by the Sophomores with 44 points. The Juniors and Seniors tied with 31 points apiece and the Freshmen had 14 points.
Total points, which included participation and canned goods donations, gave the overall championship to the Sophomores with 52 points. Second place went to the Juniors with 36 points, the Seniors finished third with 35 points and the Freshmen were fourth with 17 points.
