L&B Tack sharp in SC Women’s semifinals

By Jon Dinan
MONGAUP VALLEY – L&B Tack defeated Fosterdale 10-5 Wednesday to sweep the best-of-three Division A semifinal series in the Sullivan County Women’s Softball League.
L&B Tack, 17-3, held the lead for most of the game but every time they gained an advantage, Fosterdale, 13-7, climbed right back in it. That was until the top half of the final inning.
With the score tied, L&B busted the game open with a five-run rally. Lacy Dalrymple and Mary Smith led off the inning with back-to-back singles and both scored on Barb Merton’s groundball single through the right side of the infield. Additional RBI singles from Tricia Tuttle, Liz Stubitz, and Autumn Ackerman would extend the lead.
In the bottom half of the seventh, Fosterdale couldn’t respond like they had all game and went down without scoring.
“It’s always going to be a good game when we play each other,” said L&B coach Doug Gosney. “We’ve gone back and forth all season. We beat them and they beat us. They’re a good team, but I think we’re a great team.”
“They played a good game,” said Fosterdale coach Pat Shuart. “They hit and we didn’t. We always play them well, but this time they came out on top.”
The championship series will begin on Monday at 6:15 p.m. at Collins Park.
