On to the
championship

Contributed Story
HONESDALE, PA — Honesdale’s Eric Williams shot a one-under par 70 at Whippoorwill Country Club on August 8 to qualify for the U.S. Mid-Amateur Championship.
Williams tied for fourth and was one of nine who advanced to the championship which will be played September 8-13 at Conway Farms Golf Club in Lake Forest, Illinois. The Mid-Amateur is open to golfers age 25 and over.
Williams, who lost in the finals of the 1992 Democrat Golf Tourney while teamed with Bill Phillips, also advanced to sectional qualifying for the U.S. Open earlier this year.
In a different qualifier for the U.S. Mid-Amateur, five-time Democrat champion Sean Semenetz, formerly of Jeffersonville and now living in Philadelphia, shot a 74 at St. Davids Golf Club in Wayne, PA, missing the cut by two shots.
In qualifying for the New York State Mid-Amateur Championship at Seven Oaks Golf Club in Hamilton, New York, nine-time Democrat champion Ken Cohen shot 79 to finish tied for seventh and grab one of the eight spots and ties available.
Also qualifying at Binghamton’s Links at Hiawatha was 2012 Villa Roma club champion Bill Phillips, who also shot a 79.
Cohen and Phillips advance to the 54-hole championship to be played at Rochester’s Midvale Country Club in late September.
