Break-through: local teams return to action in basketball, indoor track and wrestling

By Rob Potter
SULLIVAN COUNTY — While some local high school basketball teams played in tournaments last week, most of the county’s scholastic teams were off during the winter break.
But over the next few days, several of those hoops teams – as well as indoor track and wrestling teams – will be back in action.
For instance, tonight’s schedule features six basketball games involving local teams.
The Family School will host Liberty in a non-league girls’ and boys’ basketball doubleheader. At 5 p.m., the Lady Indians will meet the Lady Falcons. Then at 6:30 p.m., the Indians will play the Falcons.
In an Orange County Interscholastic Athletic Association (OCIAA) Division V game at 6:30 p.m., the Fallsburg Lady Comets will host the S.S. Seward Lady Spartans.
Also tipping off at 6:30 p.m. will be a non-league boys’ game between Roscoe and host Margaretville.
The Roscoe Lady Blue Devils will also take the court tonight. They will visit Chester in a 5 p.m. non-league game.
At 7 p.m. the Monticello Lady Panthers will host the James I. O’Neill Lady Raiders in a non-league contest.
Tomorrow’s schedule is packed with several basketball games, an indoor track meet and four wrestling matches.
At 3:30 p.m. the Eldred, Ellenville, Liberty, Monticello, Sullivan West and Tri-Valley boys’ and girls’ teams will gather in the Paul Gerry Fieldhouse on the Sullivan County Community College campus in Loch Sheldrake for an developmental indoor track meet.
The Tri-Valley wrestling team will host two Section IX Division II-B matches. At 5 p.m., the Bears will meet Chester. Then at 7 p.m., the Bears will face the Liberty Indians.
In a Section IX Division I-B match, Washingtonville will visit Monticello at 6 p.m.
The Eldred/Fallsburg team will travel to New Paltz for a non-league match at 6 p.m.
Fallsburg will visit S.S. Seward for an OCIAA Division V boys’ basketball game at 6:30 p.m.
Other boys’ basketball games, which are all non-league, on tonight’s schedule include: Chester at Livingston Manor at 6:30 p.m., Chapel Field at Eldred at 7 p.m., Monticello at James I. O’Neill at 7 p.m. and Tri-Valley at Sullivan West at 7 p.m.
Thursday evening’s schedule features five girls’ basketball games and one wrestling match.
The non-league wrestling match is at 7 p.m. when Monticello hosts Middletown.
At 6:30 p.m., Tri-Valley visits S.S. Seward in an OCIAA Division V game.
The other four games are all non-league contests. They are: Fallsburg at Family School at 5 p.m., Monticello at Minisink Valley at 7 p.m., Liberty at Chester at 7 p.m. and Roscoe at Sullivan West at 7 p.m.
