Four golfers make the grade at OCIAA

By Claire Stabbert
LIBERTY — Nick Marotta, a Monroe-Woodbury senior, fired a 35 on the back nine for a two-day total of 73 to win the Orange County Interscholastic Athletic Association (OCIAA) title on Thursday at Grossinger Country Club in Liberty.
Among county golfers, Sullivan West junior Drew Billard scored a nine-over-par 80 to place fifth. Fallsburg senior Rich Elliott placed eighth, followed by Eldred’s Dave Powers and Tri-Valley’s Jimmy Bernstein.
All of these golfers qualified for the Section IX golf tournament, which began yesterday at Mansion Ridge in Monroe. Results were not available at press time.
“The conditions were a little bit wet and the kids walked the course but they played nine holes and got rained out on Tuesday. Thursday’s conditions were wet, but still hot,” said Grossinger’s Pro Ken Cogswell
