Eldred teams sweep Class D track

CALLICOON — The Eldred Yellowjackets girls and boys’ track and field teams put on extremely impressive performances and took first in the Section IX-Class D Track Championships on Thursday, May 24, at Middletown high school.
Christine Donnelly led the Lady Yellowjackets with three individual wins: the 800 (2:22.83), the 1500 (5:12.62) and 3000 (11:25.38). She also took part in the 1600 relay which took first and included Savanna Finck, Lauren Frey and Sarah Malzahn. The girls scored a time of 4:27.49.
Erika Browning, Breanna Brucher, and Lauren Frey were double winners at the meet. Browning led in both the long jump with 16-9 and triple jump with 33-91⁄2.
Teammate Breanna Brucher also placed first in both the 100 hurdles with a time of 17.31 and the pole vault with 10-3. Savannah Fink won the 400 hurdles with a time of 74.76 and was part of the girls’ 4x400 relay. Melissa McMonagle added to the first place wins with a score of 1,539 in the pentathlon.
On the boys’ side, Hunter Proscia took first in four events including the 1600 (4:43.99), 3200 (10:12.61), 3000 steeplechase (10:23.69) and was part of the winning 1600 relay.
Adrian Zrzysztofowicz was a double winner 110 and 400 hurdles with respective times of 16:40 and 59:64.
The 400, 1600, and 3200 relays were won as well by the Eldred boys. Members of the 400 relay, with a time of 46.60, included Doug Leek, Craig Burns, Zak Dilles, and Julian DeLeon. The 1600 relay consisted of Hunter Proscia, Doug Leek, Anthony Moriggia, and Julian Gottlieb and clocked 3:43.88. The 3200 relay, with a time of 9:27:48, was comprised of Alex Campanella, Matt Watts, Kevin Maas and Mathew Leskanik.
