The Liberty-Sullivan West football rivalry will take on added importance this season as the two teams are once again in the same division in Class C. Sullivan West has won the last two meetings between the schools. This year’s game will be played on Friday, October 4 at Sullivan West.

Shifting focus

Staff Report
SULLIVAN COUNTY — August 30, 2013 — The high school football season begins next Friday with three local teams in action followed by two more games involving Sullivan County teams on Saturday.
There are a couple of divisional alignment changes in Section IX which could impact which teams advance to the playoffs and beyond.
The biggest move came in Class C, where Liberty is back in Division 2 with Sullivan West, Tri-Valley and Millbrook. All of these teams had winning records last year and three advanced to the playoffs. Since only the top two teams from the Division can qualify for the playoffs, two teams will be left out, magnifying the importance of every league contest. The first big game will come on September 21 when Millbrook visits Tri-Valley. On October 4, Liberty plays at Sullivan West.
Replacing Liberty in Class C Division 1 is Ellenville which dropped from Class B, essentially trading places with Dover, which was elevated from Class C. Burke, O’Neill and Onteora are the other teams in Class C Division 1.
In Class D, Livingston Manor is out as its own team, joining forces with Roscoe/Downsville. Pine Plains will be dropping from from Class C into D. Chester remains the prohibitive favorite in Class D, while Eldred rounds out the four-team league.
In Class A, Roosevelt drops down from AA to form a seven-team league. Monticello is the only Sullivan County team in Class A.
