Aric Boyes of Tri-Valley easily won the shot put competition at Friday’s state qualifier at West Point and set a school record in the process. He will be joining three other county athletes at this Saturday’s state meet at Cornell University.

Compiled from staff reports WEST POINT February 26, 2013 Four Sullivan County athletes advanced to the New York State Track & Field Championship Meet at Cornell University this Saturday.
The Section IX State Qualifier Meet was held Friday at West Point’s Gillis Field House.
The top two finishers and third place finishers who have met a state-meet standard at any meet this past season advance. Representing our county will be:
• Mareena DiMilia of Tri-Valley qualified in two events. She placed second in the long jump with a 16-1 effort, topped only by Saleen Matta of Newburgh with a 16-91⁄2. DiMilia also put the shot 36-1, good enough for second behind Katherine Mollahan of Cornwall (37-21⁄4).
• Alex Campanella of Eldred easily won the 3200 with a 9:30.09, well ahead of Alex Shodai of Middletown (9:39.64).
• Aric Boyes of Tri-Valley copped the shot put with a heave of 50-101⁄2. A distant second was Tim Wilson of Washingtonville with 45-111⁄2. Trevon Rainey of Monticello placed fourth with a 43-41⁄2.
• Mitch Paciga of Sullivan West placed second in the high jump, clearing 6-3 as Daniel Pierre of Middletown jumped 6-4.
Also placing in the top six, but failing to qualify, were:
John Harned of Monticello in the 600 (1:27.65 for sixth). Pat Rooney of Monroe-Woodbury clocked 1:22.45 to win it.
Mike Rogers of Monticello cleared 12-0 in the pole vault for sixth place. Winner was Todd Uckermark of Warwick with a 15-0.
Placing third in the 1500 racewalk was Brooke Gillette of Tri-Valley with a 7:36.65. Loren Lozano of Valley Central edged Athena Blair of Cornwall 7:30.23 to 7:30.84.
Tri-Valley’s Autumn Bender ran 10:36.55 to place fourth in the 3000, won by Newburgh’s Gianna Frontera in 10:00.13.
Competing in the weight throw (a non-state event), Aric Boyes (TV) placed second with a 56-5. Winner was Tim Wilson of Washingtonville with a 61-101⁄2. Anthony Rydell of Sullivan West heaved it 43-71⁄2 for fourth. On the girls’ side, Claire Tierney (TV) placed third with 26-11⁄2 heave as Danielle Borriello of Ellenville outdistanced the field with a 46-5.
In the girls’ high jump, Laura Doherty of Monticello and Kate Greffrath of Tri-Valley both cleared 4-9 to tie for fourth. Meredith Przybocki of Pine Bush won it with a 5-3.
Hannah Feinman of Sullivan West three-stepped 30-71⁄2 for fifth place as Catherine Walker of Monroe-Woodbury won the triple jump with a 34-01⁄4.
The Tri-Valley Lady Bears placed fifth in the 3200 relay with a 10:44.09 clocking. Warwick’s 9:40.44 topped the field.
